      an assessment is performed to determine
        potential exposure to an electric ARC,
          for employees who work on or near
             energized parts or equipment."

To identify and cooperatively meet the diverse needs of member businesses in Missouri & Kansas who provide products or services to the electrical industry.


Lighting Awards

NOTE:  The Lighting Awards will NOT be held in 2008.  New Committee Forming.

The Lighting Awards Program is designed to recognize and publicize outstanding lighting installations made during the past year throughout the Metropolitan and surrounding Kansas City area. Two awards will be given for the outstanding installation in each category.  You may order additional awards after the event to recognize other project participants.  Electrical representatives, wholesale house and lighting showroom personnel are not eligible for awards.  Please complete the following Lighting Award Entry Form and submit by August 14, 2006.


Awards Categories 
Commercial-Merchandising Area - to include all stores, shopping centers, etc. where merchandise is offered for sale.

Commercial-Office - to include all office buildings and all similar areas where the predominant function is office and/or desk type tasks.

Commercial-General - to include all other commercial areas such as banks, lobbies, recreational, etc.

Industrial - to include lighting for all indoor areas used for the manufacture or warehousing of goods.

Institutional - to include indoor lighting for all schools, hospitals, governmental buildings and churches.

Outdoor-Building - to include commercial, industrial, sports, recreational and institutional buildings; associated areas and parking facilities.

Entertainment Facility - all indoor lighting of theaters, casinos and other places of entertainment not described in other categories.

Hospitality Facilities - all indoor lighting of bars, restaurants, hotels and ballrooms.

Residential Lighting - for unique and aesthetic indoor residential lighting. Only homes priced $300,000 + are eligible.  For all residential entries, slides must be submitted for project(s) to be judged.  Projects outside the KC Metro Area - slides must be submitted for projects to be judged.

Landscape Lighting - for unique and aesthetic residential or commercial outdoor landscape lighting.

L.I.T. Award - To reward the industry's effort to promote new and creative approaches to lighting, the Electric League will present a special award that encompasses innovative lighting technologies.  The Lighting Innovation Technology (L.I.T.) Award will be a single distinguished project.  You may be entered into another category and also designate your interest in being considered for this award. (We will present one special award.  Additional awards may be purchased by the winning team).  Please fill out the L.I.T. section on the entry form to be considered for the award.


Award Program Rules

  1. The entries are to be limited to installations within the Kansas City Metro Area.  Projects outside this area - slides must be submitted for projects to be judged.  
  2. The entry must be designed by an Architect, Engineer, Lighting Designer or Design Build Contractor with a design person on staff maintaining a place of business within the 60-mile area.
  3. The project must have been installed and completed in the period from July 1, 2005 through August 14, 2006.
  4. The judging is to be on the following areas:
    • Originality
    • Aesthetic Value
    • The Fixture
    • The Lamp Source
    • Energy Management
    • Lighting Techniques
    • The Appropriate Light Level
  5. NEW THIS YEAR - each submitted entry will receive two (2) free tickets to the awards banquet on November 2.
  6. No refunds for tickets will be honored unless notification is given one week prior to the banquet.
  7. Decisions of Judges will be final.

Sponsorship Opportunities
We invite you to be a sponsor of the 38th Annual Lighting Awards Banquet.  The evening will be highlighted with the presentation of awards to winning architects, engineers, lighting designers, Electric League member contractors and their clients. This is always a special event and deserves the support of all individuals and firms who are involved in lighting.   

ALL sponsors will be listed on the printed program and recognized in the December issue of the Electric League News, receive special recognition during the program and be listed on a sign displayed at the banquet.  THE DEADLINE FOR SPONSORSHIP IS Thursday, October 19, 2006.
