NEWS - November 2001

President's Corner

A week in Washington, DC during October proved to me that the resilience of Americans in general, as well as those in our industry, is totally amazing. Approximately 4,000 people including exhibitors, manufacturers, suppliers, utilities and contractors spent a lot of time examining the electrical products at the trade show. About 40 from Kansas City made the trek, and conversations with a number of the group indicated to me that the Electric League's Triennial Trade Show scheduled for next March in Kansas City is well timed. The amount of new electrical technology coming to market every month is almost overwhelming, and to have it all in one location for the membership to see will make an exciting event. On top of everything else, next year's Trade Show will be at a new location with easy access and good parking. More on that later.

If you don't have young children you may not be familiar with the Time Warner's “Kaboink.” The Electric League is sponsoring some commercials aimed at electrical safety for young children. The Safety Committee, chaired by Chris Hedges, has done a great job with this project. Take a look if you get a chance.

Over 70 members and guests attended the League Luncheon at Arrowhead in October. Ex-Chief's center, restaurateur and radio talk show host, Tim Grunhard, was the guest speaker for this event and provided the attendees his typical straightforward views. The next date to look forward to will be our annual Holiday Luncheon on December 13. Definitely don't miss that one.

Well, it's that time of the year again, and an annual trip to Aspen for a turkey dinner at the Sardy House. Then maybe, weather permitting, a couple of downhill runs on the slopes. See you on December 13.

Jim Lacy,
President

Reserve December 13th for Holiday Luncheon

In keeping with the festive holiday season, the Electric League will observe its traditional Holiday Luncheon on December 13th at Harrah's North Kansas City Conference Center. As in the past, the Luncheon will include year-end League business as well as the election of members to the Board of Directors and the presentation of the Industry Achievement Award.

In addition to the year-end business, an exciting part of the Luncheon is the prize raffle to benefit the Electric League Foundation. The proceeds of the raffle are donated to the Foundation whose two-fold purpose is 1) to provide scholarships to members, their children and grandchildren and 2) to provide a donation to a deserving local charity. The raffle has been a big success in the past and the Holiday Luncheon Committee is looking forward to another great event. Again this year the grand prize will be a $500 American Express Gift Bond!

The League is asking members to be a part of this year's event by donating raffle gifts. The donation of company promotional items is discouraged. If you are able to donate a gift, please contact Olivia or Cindy at the Electric League office. The Luncheon will also feature a canned and nonperishable food drive for a local charity. Please remember to bring your food items to the Luncheon and be eligible to win a valuable prize.

A Holiday Luncheon reservation form is enclosed; please complete this form and return it to the Electric League by Dec. 10th.
