I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year and to thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as President of The Electric League for 2005. This should be a very active and exciting year. We have much to look forward to, not the least of which is our triennial Trade Show which is just around the corner, April 6-7 at the Overland Park Convention Center.
One of our main focuses this year will be involvement. We would like to see a lot more of the members involved in League activities. There are many opportunities in which to participate. The Membership/Program Committee (co-chaired by Jay Rains and Brenda Danner) is an excellent place to start. As I said in my speech at the Annual Holiday Luncheon, “we have a wonderful, active Membership Committee, however, each and every one of you, as a member of the League and the electrical community is a part of this committee. Please help us grow this organization with new members and with your participation in the League.”
A calendar of events for 2005 is available. Just contact Jane or Kim in the League office and they will be glad to see that you have that schedule.
If you would like to volunteer to help with a committee or have any questions or suggestions, feel free to contact any Board member, Jane or Kim in the League office or myself. Any of us would be very happy to hear from you.Deanna Rudd,

"Kansas City Then & Now" - Topic for Tom Leathers at February Luncheon
Mark your calendar today to attend the next Electric League luncheon, scheduled for Feb. 25 at the Savoy Grill, 210 W. 9th St., in Kansas City. The speaker will be Tom Leathers. Tom is the editor and publisher of The Squire, a leading publication in Kansas City and Johnson County. He is the winner of more than two dozen national journalism awards, including the highest honor of the International Conference of Weekly editors; the Journalism Award from the Urban League; the award of courage in journalsim from the Metropolitan Inter-Church Agency; and the media award from the ALS Society. Winner of the prize for the “Best Sportswriting in the U.S.” from the Suburban Newspapers of America.
Tom has been the president of The Ad Center, an advertising agency, since 1971. He has also been the publisher of more than 150 books by local and regional authors and the Midwest correspondent for USA Today.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear one of the giants in the newspaper and print industry at the first Electric League luncheon in 2005.
John Marietti, Chairman of the Board of Cleaves-Bessmer-Marietti, Inc., was recently honored by the University of Arizona Eller College of Management & College of Engineering with the College of Engineering Distinguished Service Award. The award was presented at the sixth annual Technology and Management Awards Luncheon December 9 at the Arizona Biltmore, Phoenix, Arizona. Congratulatations John!
Familiar faces in new places: Rick Boswell and Linda Baugh are now at Graybar. Fred King is hanging his hat at French-Gerleman. Penny Sage is a new addition to Electrical Corp. of America (ECA).
